Instagram Jazz Trumpet Lick #1 | Charlie Parker

The jazz lick I’m working on this week is a two-bar lick in 4/4 time. It can be played in two harmonic situations:
1) 2 bars of Eb7
2) 1 bar of Bb7 to 1 bar of Eb major (V7— I )
Let me know in the comments where else you can apply this lick.

I transcribed it from:

“Groovin’ High” - Dizzy Gillespie
Played by Charlie Parker ( :50-:52 )

One way to learn how to improvise on trumpet or any instrument, is through solo transcription. By transcribing licks or whole solos, you get valuable jazz language just like you would when learning any language that you want to learn how to speak.
