This jazz lick utilizes the major bebop scale along with an arpeggio and some other scalar motion. I copped it from a portion of a Freddie Hubbard phrase in his recording of “You’re My Everything”, from his Hub-Tones album. The lick I’m working on this week is a one-bar double time passage in 4/4 time. It can be played in over a G major seventh chord. I like this lick because of the overall shape and the smaller 4-note shapes within it.
Once you hear it, you’ll notice that there’s one small difference. On beat four of the lick, I changed the B-flat to B-natural just to stay within G major. But check out both ways and see whether you like this lick with the B-flat or B-natural. I transcribed it from: Song:“You’re My Everything” Album: Hub-Tones Artist: Freddie Hubbard Time-Stamp: (1:36-1:40) Click Here to follow on Instagram: http://bit.ly/2bKfKD9
